Please note: On Friday, June 8, 2001,
Chief Justice Finch was sworn in as the Chief Justice of British Columbia, replacing Chief
Justice McEachern who retired from the judiciary on May 20th, 2001. Chief Justice
Finch has decided to continue to operate the Chief Justice's home page started by Chief
Justice McEachern. As of Monday, June 18, 2001, Chief Justice Finch will operate
this web site. The conditions established on the web site under former Chief Justice
McEachern will remain in effect for the time being.
To further enhance public understanding, this web site was created as an easy,
electronic vehicle for the Chief Justice's comments or announcements about legal and
judicial matters of general public interest, and for the Internet public to inquire
directly about such matters.
Recognizing that there is increasing interest in the judicial system, public
understanding about the courts, the judiciary and the law has been enhanced in various
ways.
- An Annual Report for the Court is published every year.
- The Internet Compendium was published and it attempts to describe and explain many
legal-judicial matters.
- Click here to go to the Compendium or call it up through the Superior Courts website at its
Internet Address: http://www.courts.gov.bc.ca
and by clicking there on "Legal Compendium"
- This Home Page is subject to its Conditions section and is
set up on a trial basis only. It is intended that comments and answers to inquiries will
be available to both the party making the inquiry (who will not be identified) and to the
general Internet community.
- Naturally the Chief Justice shall only offer comments on subjects considered
appropriate. For various reasons the Chief Justice cannot discuss some matters, and may
not have time to answer all inquiries. For that reason, the operation of this Home Page
must be subject to the Conditions section of this Home Page.
